Research field

My research group investigates the role of the alteration of the homeostasis of the transition metal copper in neurodegeneratio n, correlated with m itochondrial function impairment and oxidative stress. Alteration of copper homeostasis and GABA metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease are currently under study , focused to understand whether these aspects are involved in Alzheimer’s etiology, and may represent early markers of this disease as well as therapeutical targets . Cell models of neurodegeneration as well a s patients’ specimens are examined .
