PhD Course in Cellular and Molecular Biology
Corso di Dottorato in Biologia Cellulare e Molecolare

Research

The PhD Course in Molecular Cell Biology (Corso di Dottorato in Biologia Cellulare e Molecolare) is held at The Department of Biology of the University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy. This Department is a multidisciplinary institute, harbouring several laboratories representative of competitive biological research. The Department has ≈140 staff members. Main research fields are: Developmental Biology, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Plant and Animal Cell Biology, Human Genetics, Bioinformatics. The University hosts the Editorial Office of ‘Cell Death and Differentiation’, an international journal leader in the field of apoptosis. More than 10 PI in this Department are devoted to cancer research. As common facilities the Department offers platforms for Electron and confocal microscopy, DNA and protein sequencing, animal experimentation, cytofluorimetry, histology. The University has, as a clinical resource, a key Research Hospital.

The Department has pre-existing agreements with the IRCCSs INMI-Lazzaro Spallanzani, Fondazione Santa Lucia, Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù and CNR for the use of common facilities and the exchange of personnel. Those Institutes harbor several laboratories representative of competitive Biological and Translational Research.

APPLICATION FORM DEADLINE

The call for selection for the PhD course in Cellular and Molecular Biology of the academic year 2021/2022 is closed.

The PhD Course in Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCM) train students to contribute to the advancement of science by making and publishing scientific discoveries in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cellular Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, and Bioinformatics. The students are expected to focus on research and study. The training program will let our students acquire scientific expertise and technical skills, all key factors in a scientific career.
By their training, BCM PhD students will be able to: • Analyze a scientific problem and define specific biological questions, to be addressed by means of various experimental approaches. This includes the formulation of hypotheses in order to design experiments, build up a time plan and define logical outcomes. They should also learn how to reach conclusions based on statistically-significant results • Be intellectually independent • Gain advanced communication skills • Drive responsible research and integrate in a Team community
